Viktor Antonovich SADOVNICHY
Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University
The Chair of the Department of Mathematical Analysis, MSU.
Born April 3, 1939 in Krasnopavlovka, Kharkov Region.
Graduated from Lomonosov Moscow State University in 1963. Doctor of Physics and Mathematics (1974), professor (1975). Full member of Russian Academy of Science (1997).
Victor A. Sadovnichy has been working in MSU since 1966, first as an assistant lecturer, then as a assistant professor, professor, Deputy Dean, Deputy Pro Rector, Pro Rector, First Pro Rector, Rector of MSU (1992 - present time).
Victor A. Sadovnichy has established an eminent academic school, currently gives lectures and conducts research. He is the author of more than 300 publications. He is the Chair of the Department of Mathematical Analysis, and the Head of MSU Institute of Complex Systems Mathematical Research.
Academician Sadovnichy is a leading scientist specializing in informatics and applied mathematics. He is the author of definitive works on mathematics, mechanics, the results of his research are of high practical value. His works on mathematics are concerned with the theory of differential operators, mathematical basis for a number of approaches in the relativistic gravitation theory. His findings in the field of animated emulation of motion control, specifically that of space vehicles, have provided the theoretical foundation for the invention of the unique zero-gravity simulator. Victor A. Sadovnichy has been teaching such foundation courses in mathematics as "Mathematical Analysis", "Functional Analysis", etc., for more than 30 years. He has been also conducting seminars on the spectral theory since 1967.
He has been a research supervisor to 40 seekers of Candidate Degree; 10 of his former students hold Doctoral Degree, more than 100 students have done their diploma projects under his supervision.
It has become a family tradition in Sadovnichy’s family to study mathematics. This noble science has been chosen by his wife and his children as well.
Sadovnichy is a member of the Presidential Council for Science and Technology, a member of the Presidium of Russian Academy of Sciences.
Sadovnichy is the President of the Russian Union of Rectors and the President of Eurasia University Association which unites all the leading universities of the CIS. He is also an honorary member of Russian Academy of Education, a member of the Ministry of Education Board, a member of the Academic Council under the auspices of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, of the Russian Government Committee on the Russian Language.
Sadovnichy’s achievements in teaching and research have been nationally and internationally recognized. He’s the USSR State Prize laureate (1989), Russian Federation State Prize for Science and Technology recipient (2002). He is awarded Lomonosov Prize (1973), the following state prizes: Order of Merit for the Country, Class III, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, Order "St. Prince Daniil Moskovsky", Medal for Distinguished Labor, and the Medal for the 850th Anniversary of Moscow. He is also the recipient of the following foreign awards: de la Legion d'Honneur, Commander (France), Order "For Merits" (Ukraine), the Francisc Scorina medal (Belarus), order Dostyk and Kazakhstan State Prize.
